José is a vice president and director of multicultural markets at a commercial marketing firm. He previously worked as a commercial marketing executive and as director of multicultural markets. 

José is currently a member of the Texas State Senate representing District 26. He was first elected in 2015. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2000 to 2015. He began his public service career in 1997 when he was elected to the San Antonio City Council.
