He has a certification for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. He is a member of Antioch Baptist Church North.
Professional background
Michael was the Deputy Director and Chief Programs Officer for the Atlanta branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He also served on the national board of the American Diabetes Association from 2011 to 2013.
Political background
Michael Julian Bond has been the city council member for Post 1 At Large since November 2009. He is a member of the Committee on Council, the Community Development and Human Resources Committee, and the Public Safety Committee. From 1994 to 2001, Michael represented District 3 on city council, and he was President Pro Tempore and chair of the Public Safety and Community Development committees.

Thinks Buckhead's desire to leave Atlanta is because they don't think they're getting a return on their tax dollars. He said, "crime is the catalyst but it really comes down to the services that people are getting from their government."
As a city council member, he was responsible for stopping demolition of 152 Nassau Street.
Said that the accomplishments he is most proud of as city council member is the development of the Westside TAD, including at Publix grocery store, and creating Invest Atlanta.

Housing & Urban Development
As a city council member, Michael wanted to sell nearly 500 city properties to developers for $1 to build affordable housing.
During his 2017 campaign for city council, he said affordable housing was his top priority, and that he wanted to "mak\[e\] sure that we have fair and equitable affordable housing policy for all parts of Atlanta."
As a city council member, he voted against banning panhandling in the city.

Public Safety
Charged with 300 violations of campaign finance law from 2009 to 2015, and he was fined $45,000 by the Georgia state ethics commission. Most of the fines were for failing to report campaign expenses, while the rest were for paying personal expenses with campaign money, including car insurance and personal phone bills.
Allegedly used taxpayer money to attend a family reunion, bought party favors for his high school reunion, failed to turn in receipts for 22 work trips that he was reimbursed for, and paid for private tutoring for himself.
