Michelle has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in occupational safety & health and environmental management from North Carolina A&T State University and Columbia Southern University. She and her husband, William, have three children, Trey, Lauren and Brooke.

Michelle is the senior resident manager of environmental health and safety at Anheuser-Busch, LLC. She was recently elected third vice president of the Georgia Municipal Association, which is a nonprofit that provides education, consulting and political advocacy services to cities.

Michelle Cooper Kelly is a member of the Marietta City Council, representing Ward 6 since 2013. She has served two terms and was mayor pro tem this year. She is chair of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee and a member of the Finance and Public Works committees. If elected, she would be Marietta's first Black mayor.
