Personal background

Ilryong was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1957 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1974. He graduated from Harvard University and William and Mary Law School. He has two sons.

Professional background

Ilryong was a Board Member at EduTutor of Virginia. He was also an Advisory Board Member at NAKS-Washington Association for Korean Schools and at Northern Virgnia Community College. Ilryong was a member of Virginia Governor Tim Kaine’s Urban Policy Task Force.

Political background

Ilryong Moon ran for the Braddock District seat in Fairfax County’s first ever school board election and won in 1996. He served as an At-Large Member of Fairfax County School Board from 2004 to 2019. During his tenure, he served as the chairman and vice chairman for three terms each. Ilryong was a member of Affordable Housing Advisory Committee of Fairfax County.

School Violence

Wants to ensure that students have a safe and healthy learning environment.

Supports providing schools more resources such as counselors and psychologists to be able to deal with safety and mental health issues.
