Don graduated from West Virginia State University. He is married to Jo Lynn, with whom he has two daughters. The family faced the loss of their daughter Jennifer in 2020.

Don had a 35-year career with the Bell System, starting as a telephone installer-repairman and retiring as Operations Manager of BellSouth Communications Systems. He continues to work as a telecommunications consultant.

Don Parsons was elected as the State Representative of State House District 44 in 2013 and has served 5 terms in this position. Previously, Don was the  State Representative of State House District 42.
