Helen is from Hancock County, where she still resides today. She graduated from Georgia College and State University. She is married to her husband, with whom they have two children together. She attends the local Methodist Church. She served as the Director of the Sparta-Hancock, County Development Authority and was involved with First American Home Care. She was also a member on the Health & Human Services Committee of the House, and the Economic Development & Tourism and Public Utilities & Telecommunications Committees.

Helen “Sistie” Hudson is the Chair of the Hancock County Board of Commissioners. She served as a Georgia State House of Representative for District 124. She was elected to that position in 1997, and served for 8 terms. She also served on the Hancock County Commission for District 2, from 1995-96. Hudson additionally served as the mayor of Sparta and as a city council member, and was elected to both positions in 1986 and 1982 respectively, and held both positions for six years each, or 1.5 terms.
