She has a bachelor of arts in international relations and affairs from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a master of arts in international development and humanitarian assistance from the University of Melbourne, and a master of public health in global health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives with her husband and daughter in Huntersville.

Alisia is a nonprofit consultant. She previously worked as the joint director of the Refugee Claimants Support Centre in Brisbane, Australia, and as the development director at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services in Baltimore, Maryland.
