Dear Neighbor,
I am proud to have served our community as a member of the Madison Common Council for eight years.
In 2015, I had the honor of making history as one of the first African American women elected to the council in the city’s 156-year history.
Later, I became the first African American woman elected as Common Council President—a role I embraced with dedication and distinction.
Throughout my time as an Alderperson, I prioritized collaboration, engagement, and bridge-building. By finding common ground, even with those who held differing views, we were able to achieve solutions that truly benefited Madison and our district.
While my neighborhood has since been redistricted into District 10, my commitment to public service remains steadfast.
I will continue to work with Madison residents to address concerns, find solutions, and improve the city we call home.

In 2008 launched the "See something, say something, Make the Call" campaign in Arbor Hills and Leopold neighborhoods.

President of South Metropolitan Planning Council an umbrella organization empowering and supporting the sustainability of South Madison's neighborhoods.
Member of the Nine Springs Health Assessment Committee along with Public Health of Madison/Dane County staff and community residents to assess the benefits of expanding our parks in our community.
President of Arbor Hills Neighborhood Association for over 10 years and initiated several community projects in Arbor Hills and worked closely with the Leopold Neighborhood Association. 
 Porchlight, Inc. board president diligently working to provide a hand up not a handout to our most vulnerable citizens/residents.

Penn Park Renovation: Secured $1.5 million for enhancements to this vital community space.
Madison College Goodman South Campus: Facilitated the establishment of a new campus to expand educational opportunities.
Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center: Allocated $2.5 million to create a new, improved community center.
Equity Business Initiative: Launched a program to support and grow businesses with a focus on equity.
Urban League's Black Business Hub: Provided support for this initiative to foster Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurship.
Nehemiah's Black Excellence and Culture Center: Contributed to planning efforts for this upcoming cultural and community center.
South Madison School: Advocated for and achieved funding for a new school through the successful Vote Yes 2 Invest 2020 Referenda.
Truman Olson Affordable Housing Development: Ensured the inclusion of a Maurer grocery store in this essential housing project.
Nonprofit Funding: Increased financial support for numerous nonprofit service organizations across the area.
