Gary Woronchak was raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and previously attended Henry Ford Community College. He is married and has a daughter.

Gary is a former newspaper editor. He previously worked as the managing editor of The Daily Tribune. He also spent most of his newspaper career as an editor for Press & Guide Newspapers, overseeing news operations for the Dearborn edition and the Dearborn Heights Leader/Press & Guide. 

Gary previously served six years as a Michigan State Representative and 14 years as a Wayne County Commissioner. He ran for Michigan State Senator in 2018 but did not win.
