Lisa Atkins currently serves as a Water Conservation Board Member in the Maricopa Water Conservation District for Arizona. She was appointed to the Board in 2003. She was elected in 2006 and is serving her third full term. 


- The Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD) was formed to deliver Central Arizona Project (CAP) water; operate, maintain, and manage the CAP; and repay the federal government for the costs of constructing the CAP.
- The district is headed by a general manager who reports to the fifteen-member CAWCD Board of Directors. Board members are popularly elected from CAP’s three county service areas and serve staggered six-year terms.
- The CAWCD is authorized to issue bonds and levy taxes relating to water.
- The CAWCD sets water policy for Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties.
