Russell has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Florida A&M University. He chaired his local neighborhood planning unit for four years and served as neighborhood president of South Atlanta Civic League. He also serves on his company's national Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) council, the Community Coalition Board for Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Resource Center and is a community liaison member of the Morehouse Healthcare Board of Trustees.
